Arts Waikato is the region's community arts trust, offering free advice, support and advocacy to the arts sector in the Greater Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand.
Our focus is community arts groups and the non-commercial arts sector. Our aim is to encourage the development of arts and culture across the region and across all arts areas.
We also have key initiatives such as scholarships for tertiary study and arts management workshops .
Arts Waikato works in all arts areas - visual, music, theatre, film, crafts,
dance, literature, heritage and Maori arts.
- We work with local authorities, community arts councils, educational institutions and other regional agencies as well as community groups
- We advocate for greater participation in the arts in our region
- We encourage an awareness of the value of arts and cultural activities in our communities
- We lobby local and national organisations to support the arts in our region
- We help develop the strength and capacity of arts groups through:
- Advice and information on funding
- Support with setting up a new group
- Facilitation of strategic planning
- Assistance for both trustees/committee members and staff
- Advice on event and project planning
- Access to community resources
- Management support
- Information on training opportunities
- Advocacy with local and national bodies
- Marketing and promotion
- Networking
