Yaniv Janson started a painting career in early 2008. Since then he participated in 7 exhibitions - 4 of those as solo artist. He has a permanent show at Momento (Management School venue, Gate 7) on the campus of the University of Waikato. In his first year of painting he was selected as a finalist for the two major New Zealand Contemporary Arts Awards this year, and the youngest for either! Yaniv's budding talent has been recognised by arts personalities: Natasha Conland, Curator Auckland Art Gallery who selected his painting as a finalist for the Trust Waikato National Contemporary Arts Award said "Yaniv's colour and texture combination is unique and exciting". Similarly, the three judges for the Wallace Trust Arts Award (Linda Tyler, Director of the Centre for New Zealand Art Research and Discovery with Dick Frizzell and James Robinson, well known New Zealand artists) recognised his talent by selecting him as a semi-finalist for 2008. www.heathersherman.co.nz Waikato Artist Heather Sherman - "My work is inspired by the `natural world' and explores relationships between imagination and reality. I work with both realist and expressionist genres and use my style of painting to show the symbiosis inherent in our animal and plant worlds. Nature expresses itself in a variety of ways and I have been fortunate to live in an environment where this is experienced on a daily basis. Kawhia Harbour and surrounds is rich not only in archaeology, history and culture but also in direct contact with migrating birds, orca, sea & sky changes, and a changing light that provokes the senses."
